Wild Iceland

Missing You

Well i have been here for about 22 days and i miss America. i think i wouldn't be home sick if there was a Starbucks here, or a Barns and Noble. Im surrounded by the wilds of Iceland and its a hard rains a coming. seriously though it rains really hard here.
i cant say that i have been sitting around idle doing nothing. yesterday i went to a dance class with the Iceland Dance Company and it was so much fun.  it was a Ballet Class but in many ways was more like a jazz class with a ballet bar warm up. I loved it. i almost went up to the teacher after class to beg her for a job.  The company members seem to have so much fun together. there isn't any silly politics in the company like the Richmond Ballet and none of them look like they have eating disorders, so thats a major plus.
i have been hanging out with Thor's Uncles horses lately and their pretty cool. Icelandic horses are a smaller horse that tend to get very hairy in the winter time. Thor's Grandfather offered Thor a horse that he had.  he was very pretty but no one wanted him because he was afraid of people and very stubborn. Thor, the horse whisperer tried to get aquatinted with the horse but the horse was having none of it. Since no one wants the horse they are going to send it to the slaughter house and have it for supper. i want to save it but it cost 500 dollars a month to keep it... so i guess I'm having horse for supper sometime soon. Iceland is a harsh land where only the strongest viking survives.
to help me survive the cruel world that is the wild Iceland I've started taking a tablespoon of fish oil every day. its really gross but its suppose to give me the strength and health of a Viking. so the next time you see me i may be 6 feet tall and blonde.

learning the language

words of the day
     Bjór- beer
used in a sentence...
Ég vil bjór. I want a beer

     Hurð- door
Lokaðu hurðinni. Close the door!

    Klósettið -the bathroom
Ég þarf að pissa. i have to pee.

definitely the weirdest language imaginable.  To help me learn this ridiculous (fáránlegt) language i have put post-its all over my room.  The family has decided to teach me Icelandic even Odinnson's four year old cousin, Kristín María is putting in some effort.  Last night we watched the Lion King in Icelandic and she was explaining things to me about Simbi.  Of course i had no idea what she was saying and since children in general freak me out I ignored her.  She didn't seem to get the hint  because she kept talking and staring me down when i didn't answer. I was relieved when Odinnson finally showed up to translate.  I believe Kristín María is part fay. she kept looking at me like she was planning to play a trick on me or cast a spell on me.  I'm trying to stay on her good side so i don't end up half mad wandering the glaciers.

a beautiful view

the begining

This blog will be a place to tell my stories of the many adventures i have in the land of ice.  3 months of rain, dark, wine, faries and my viking boyfriend's family... it should be fun!
but before i begin this blogging journey i should give you all some back ground on my relationship with iceland.
its a love story at its finest and it all began five years ago when i was 17.  a young icelandic man, who i will refer to as Odinnson, was an exchange student at my high school in Virginia. it wasn't love at first sight but it soon developed into something special. He stayed junior and senior year and it was bliss. however after graduation he had to return home.  Odinnson nor i had ever been in a serious relationship let alone a serious long distance relationship. its been four years since he left the states. we both had school and work so we only got to see each other every four months...untill now!
im done with art school and ready to have an adventure. im going to try living with my boyfriend of five years for a few months in a very small space. im going to try things that i have never done before and i promise to not hold back. this is my year of fun and freedom because sooner or later im going to have to grow up.
